I am attempting to connect an AB7649-F to a Siemens CP 343-1 and I cannot establish communication, however I can go online via Simatic Manger and the module is ok. Can I use a CP card to communicate with the gateway or does the gateway need to be directly connected to a PLC?

I am not familiar with a CP343-1 device. The AB7649 is a profinet IO device and from what I found in a manual online it looks like the CP343 can act as a profinet controller. I would expect you to be able to establish a connection between the two devices. I assume the setup should be similar to using the PLC itself and the configuration is still done in TIA portal.
