Alright, I was just trying to use something that I knew would give me data back so I would know if it was working or not.

I would suggest using a modbus TCP slave simulator. You should be able to find some free ones online. This should allow you to test the modbus side and simulate data.

Just to verify something, this device will work even if its connected through a network switch to the PLC correct?

Yes, the device should have no issues connecting though a switch.
