eWon Flexy 205 - Issues with rebooting / Losing connection

This has been going on for a while and I saw a post where someone else was having a connection loss randomly as well and what was advised was to run the VPN wizard. It changed me from TCP to UDP. It seemed to not lose connection as much according to the eWon web interface but I would still get disconnected from the AB PLC. So I changed it back to TCP and was able to stay online longer without getting disconnected but now I am getting the rebooting. It seems to be the watchdog causing the reboot. I have a screen shot of the real time logs but do not see a way to attach them. So heres a copy / paste of the log.

Hello Joseph,

You can attach the backup with support files by using the “Share” functioning within the webpage. The VPN may be having connection issues, but i will need to read the backup with support files to further trouble shoot this issue. To get the correct backup, you will need to connect to the device locally and downloading the files via eBuddy.

Please let me know if i can provide any additional information.

MOVED TO STAFF NOTE (1.1 MB)
Here is the backup.

I am seeing posts about a Control Logix PLC, and eWon having slow (Hour +) save/download/upload or almost impossible to do due to losing connection. I saw the thread where you suggested trying a closer connection. I am currently using TCP and have tried UDP with no success. I am not on the latest firmware on either, 13.0 on eWon, 6.3.6 on Ecatcher.

DSL Reports show Remote tests at 340+mb down /120mb up
DSL Reports show my connection tests at 40+mb down /4+mb up

Remote Flexy = Wenatchee, WA
Geographic connection = Yakima,WA
Device serial = This eWON serial number is : 1647-0259-21

Can you check to see if I am on the closest server as well?

Hello Joseph,

I will review the back logs to determine where the connection loss is occurring.

As for the server location, i do not have a list of physical address for where the VPN’s are located. However, I have attached the US VPN server internet addresses. I advise doing a traceroute to determine the closes server to the device location.

Please let me know if i can provide any additional information.

Following up as I haven’t heard where the connection loss is coming from or how to remedy this situation.

Multiple users are having this same issues (Local to my company). It makes it to where you if you do not have the project, you can not stay connected long enough to upload the project making the remote connection useless.

My apologies, It seems there is some communication error causing the VPN to close.

After review of the device, i did find a couple issues:

Firmware: Your current firmware is set to 13.0, i advise to update the firmware to our latest release 13.3
BASIC Script: I do see you have a basic script active that is creating emails. It is located in the Cyclic section of the BASIC IDE. Please move this script to the Init Section, as the cyclic section can cause issues when scripts are running within it.

Firmware: Your current firmware is set to 13.0, i advise to update the firmware to our latest release 13.3

Is this a blanket statement for all eWon’s on 13.0? I have about 3-4 others on the same firmware. I have not utilized them enough to find out if they also have issues.

Hello,

Yes, i would advise that all flexy’s be up tp date on the latest firmware. This can be done through eBuddy and connecting locally to the device.

I updated to the latest firmware, took out the scripting to eliminate that as an issue. and tried to save a project. It failed. I went through the VPN wizard, changed from UDP to TCP. I was able to stay online long enough to save (Online project so about 1H) but lost connection immediately after. That was mid day 7/30. I checked on the Flexy VPN connection summary this morning and notice it has only been connected for 36 minutes before it dropped out again (With me online with it).

Hey Kevin

You adjusted the keep alive time and we were hoping that would work but I see just as many disconnections as before. Is there anything further I can look into?

Hello Joseph,

I took a look at the back up logs again. 2 Things:

Remove the BASIC code from Cyclic section to the Init section. The cyclic section causes the BASIC Script to run at a higher rate, which can cause a back up of traffic that needs to go out. It will also Mute that event, as the Ewon attempts to organize itself.

Update to the latest firmware 13.3.0

We always advise to use the latest firmware, as it does resolve certain issues. You can do this by connecting to the device by eBuddy.

So it’s currently on the latest firmware and the scripting has been eliminated (See the post from 7 days ago. You also looked over that on the remote session yesterday.)

My apologies Joseph, I had several remote session yesterday. I had mixed up a couple of them.

The biditr error is regarding an issue with the device communicating to the VPN. The wanmgt and openvpn are being muted as these errors are happening frequently.

You have the script on the device running that is sending emails out. Do you mind disabling the script for a day or two, and see if that resolves the issue?

You have an OnChange that looks at the Send_email tag, but I do not see this tag represented. The script is looking at a tag that does not exist.

Scripting is deleted and removed. I did that about 7 days ago. I double checked again and the basic IDE is empty.

Can supply an up to date backup with support files? The events alone cannot assist with determing the cause of this issue.

Here is the back up with support files.

hello jeff,

i would check your connection with the connected PLC’s they seem to be getting bad errors. This can be an issue with the communication. Are you switches functioning properly? can you try to swap out the ethernet cords?
