Ewon Security Update

Trevor,

Recently you came to Werner Electric - St. Cloud and did a Flexy training for a group of engineers from Douglas Machine. They currently have many Cosy units in the field on their machines. Recently they were notified about a security update (https://ewon.biz/support/news/support/ewon-security-vulnerabilityhttps://ewon.us5.list-manage.com/track/click?u=e0176dc27ee960fe1d39b42ee&id=68f0f85e4e&e=9dc0dc9e36). Below in blue are a couple of the comments from one of the engineers regarding how it is recommended to go about updating the units. I am hoping that you will be able to give some additional insight or recommendations as to how they should be going about this. I believe their units are either Cosy 131 or 141 units. I have copied the Account Managers (Wade Stien & Nick Bargrain) for this account on this email as well.

We received this Ewon Security Update, I’ve looked at it a little bit.
Is it possible to update all versions of Ewon’s remotely, connect via eCatcher and then upgrade via eBuddy?
Major rev changes appear to erase the eWon, so I am thinking remote is not possible with these?
Would it be possible to get a recommendation of how we should go about accomplishing this security update?

I look forward to hearing back from you.

Thanks,

Hi,

You can preform this update while connected via eCatcher and upgrading using eBuddy. Before performing a remote update we recommend taking a backup of the device. If the cosy 131 is not in the 13 version firmware you will need a pivot upgrade.

If any of your devices are firmware lower then v11 you will need to perform a recovery which cannot be done remotely since it requires the BI1 button to be pushed.

Would it be possible to get a documented/ step by step procedure for how to go about this?

Also the update pertains to all units. Douglas Machine has both 141 and 131 units. Will the process be the same for both of these? If not could you provide the differences?

I have reached out Douglas to see what Firmware(s) they have on their devices in the field in case that makes a difference on the procedure.

Thanks,

With the Cosy 141 you will only be performing a firmware upgrade using the upgrade button in eWON.

For the Cosy 131 you will only use the firmware upgrade button if you have at least firmware v11. Otherwise you will have to preform a recovery.

This page on are site talks about how to perform these upgrades and has step by step guides on the process.
