We’ve got a customer with the following question;
“Can you add/modify the HMS-EN2MB-R module to an Online/Running ControlLogix controller without having to put it into program mode or download the configurations to the PLC? It’s crucial that we not take down the PLC offline to make any changes.”

Hello Duncan,
Due to the way the devices are designed to work with the PLC’s they require you to configure the linking devices offline, though the plc CAN still be in RUN mode. Once the configuration is complete you will need to download to the PLC.
We do offer X-gateways (AB9006) that can be added as generic IO devices or using our EDS file without an AOP. This should allow for you to add the devices without taking the PLC offline.
