USB to CAN V2 connections

I have a USB-to-CAN V2. I connected it to a CAN bus and I do not see any messages in CANAnalyzer Mini. Do I have to connect a termination resistor across CAN low and High?

Also, is it possible to use this device on FT-CAN netwroks?

Thanks,
Dhammika

Hello,

The device needs to be connected to a CAN bus with the correct termination, the device does not have any termination built in.

I am not exactly sure what CAN FT is but to use CAN FD you do need a CAN FD device. CAN and CAN FD interfaces for USB connection (ixxat.com)

Hi Deryck,

Thanks for the prompt reply.

Sorry, I made a mistake with the term. It should have been FT-CAN (i.e. Fault Tolerant CAN). The terminations are different in those networks. The terminations are at the FT-CAN transceiver. Can this device read messages on those networks?

Thanks,

Dhammika

I don’t see anything regarding FT for any of the devices. These are the transceivers used.

CAN high-speed transceiver TI SN65HVD251D
CAN low-speed transceiver (1) TJA1055T
LIN transceiver (1) TJA1020

Hi Deryck,

Thanks very much for this information.

Best regards,

Dhammika

Hi Deryck,

I have one more question. CAN low-speed transceiver, TJA1055T is primarily a FT-CAN chip. The inputs to the LS CAN in IXAAT are named as LS CAN High and LS CAN Low. Doesn’t that mean IXAAT can handle FT-CAN networks?

Thanks,

Dhammika

It looks like the Automotive one uses the transceiver that supports FT-CAN.
