I have identified CAN IDs and chosen MODBUS registers. Now I want to associate them. Is this what the DATA Object is used for? I have looked in the document “hms-hmsi-168-60.pdf”, but there are no figures showing this entry in a GUI.

You do not map the data directly from the can ID’s to modbus registers. You will map the data into the memory of the CAN Communicator which is mapped to modbus registers. See section 5.3 of the user guide.
