We have several Okuma Lathes that use an Anybus Ethernet/IP card in them, if we need to swap them to Profinet, is it possible to use the profinet version of the Anybus cards that were already installed, or are they vendor specific?

Yes, it may be possible to swap in a PROFINET card where you previously had an Ethernet/IP card, but you would need to talk to Okuma to see if they support this.

While the compactcom is designed to be swapped out to change networks types as Kyle explained there are changes in the host application needed to implement different network types. You would need to talk to Okuma Lathes about this. They should be able to tell you if there device already supports the additional protocols.
