Can you set the Flexy up to allow an email to be sent be an application? We have asystem that can send daily reports, but it is now behind an eWon Flexy. Is there a way to allow the emails to pass through teh Flexy?

To do this, you will have to modify some of the default security settings to allow LAN to WAN traffic.

To verify, Does doing this change remove the segmentation\security of the ewon device?

Yes. So, unfortunately, this involves altering the default security settings and makes the Ewon act more like a typical router. This is so that your LAN device sending the email can reach the network on the WAN and beyond.

Alternatively, you can keep the default security settings by using the Ewon’s functionality. You can read tags using one of the IO servers on the flexy and set up “alarm” triggers that would send an email. You can also do things like FTP for file transfers and scripting for any extended functionality. If you can explain more about the setup and what you need to do, I can help you find the best solution.

Jack

It’s also worth mentioning that these changes will allow outbound traffic from the LAN but not unsolicited inbound traffic (The WAN protection level is still the default). The LAN will have internet access but, generally speaking, sending emails is not going to be a huge security risk.

The vendor is using SSRS to create daily reports from their system. Originally they planned to email these to the appropriate plant personnel but with the ewon in the way they cannot do that. He says he can print to a file, so maybe we can use the ewon to forward those files.

How would we do that? Select the file, how do you make sure it is the latest file? Does it require an FTP Server?

Is this a system that was in use before the Ewon was installed? This should work if you followed the guide I attached for the configuration. Does the LAN device have it’s own SMTP server or is it sending to an SMTP server on the plant network or on the internet? Is it addressed to an IP address or a domain name?
