Connect/disconnect on Cosy

Hi support team,

I have a customer that says that he is losing connection of his unit to ecatcher. He says that when machine is powered down, it shuts all off, even the Cosy.

The firmware version of cosy out there is 8. something.
I told customer first to do a ewon recovery to go up to firmware 12.

Can you look at the backup files and let me know if there is something wrong in the configuration beside the old firmware version?

Updating the eWON firmware is definitely a great idea.

Looking through the backup I see that the eWON event logs repeating an error about a lack of address assignment from DHCP.

The newer firmware(s) provide general stabilization improvements to the WAN and increase the DHCP timeout which may help in this situation.

When you say “shuts off the cosy”, do you mean disconnects from eCatcher or does the Cosy 131 power down as well?

If the cosy 131 is powering down then I would see how the power supply is attached to the eWON and make sure it’s not daisy chained from the PLC.

If you mean disconnecting from eCatcher then I would test the Ethernet cable plugged into port 4 on the Cosy while the PLC is powered down. You can plug it into a PC and see if the PC is able to get out to the internet (disable any wifi during the test).

Yes physically, they shut power down of all equipment (machine, plc and cosy). Then it falls offline on ecatcher but when they put power up again, it still appears offline.

Oh okay! That makes more sense to me now.

The device will show offline while it’s powered off but you are right that it should come back up in eCatcher when powered on.

I would update to the latest firmware as there have been several updates to DHCP in FW version 11.2 but also check to see they are not accidentally powering off the router that is assigning the DHCP or a switch that is needed for the eWON to get a WAN connection.

They can use a PC to troubleshoot whether or not the WAN is actually working by plugging in the ethernet cable the eWON is using for internet into their PC and checking if they can get out to the internet (disable wifi during this test).

are you available to call me? i am trying to connect to his unit and WAN and LAN are conflicting address.
I changed the IP address LAN to 10.0.0.53 and trying using Create EZ IP but I am not able to get on the browser page.

I heard from a colleague that he spoke to you over the phone about this issue.
Was this issue on the same cosy that we are troubleshooting in this thread and did he resolve that issue?

Update: Customer called in and he was getting a LAN/WAN conflict due to the eZDHCP feature. The IP conflict was resolved.
