Installation on Virtualbox

Hello,

I would like to use my ixxat usb to can V2 adapter inside a virtualbox Windows 10 machine, running on and Ubuntu 22 host.
I have managed to connect the adapter to the Win 10 box, however, when seeing the device on Device Manager, There is a warning icon.

Additionally, in the device properties I see The device Cannot start (Code 10).

Is there a way to support this installation and utilize my adapter?

Thank you in advance.

Hi @Andronikos_Konstanti,

This should work. Do you have the VirtualBox Guest Additions tools installed?

Hi @kyle_HMS ,

Yes, I have installed it through the virtualbox menu.

Do I also need a driver on the Ubuntu side?

Thank you.

If this is the free version of VirtualBox, this may be a case where VirtualBox is only supporting the USB 1.1 specification and the USB-to-CAN V2 works according to the USB 2.0 specification. You may need to get the extension pack to add the USB 2.0 functionality. See:

Hi Kyle,

The virtual box extension pack installation and subsequent change of the USB device to 2.0 did the trick.

Thank you for your excellent support!

You’re welcome! I also tested this and I had to add the USB-to-CAN V2 in the VB USB settings to get it working:
