Send SMS from SCADA with 2005CD modem

Hi - We have a IGSS SCADA system and would like to send alarms as SMS messages to a GPRS modem. We have a eWON 2005CD - is it possible to configure the modem on eWON to communicate directly with PC?

To confirm, are you asking if the eWON can poll data from the Scada? If so, can your scada publish data over a supported pollable protocol such as a modbus?

The eWON is a master that supports many different industrial protocols.

We can send SMS messages from the eWON CD as you may know, through email to SMS or by just using SMS if you have a SIM Card in your device. https://websupport.ewon.biz/sites/default/files/kb-0046-0-en_email_and_sms_relay_using_talk2m.pdf

Hi - thank you for looking in to this.
Yes, can eWON pull data from the Scada?
Or can eWON act as a SMS modem like the MultiTech or a Moxa?
Here are SMS alarm settings for the SCADA software:

@oko77

Possibly, the eWON can poll data from the Scada if the Scada system can publish a poll-able protocol.
The eWON CD2005 has a modem, and supports SMS alarming through its tag monitoring.

The scada system wouldn’t be to use the eWON’s modem but the eWON can possibly monitor tag data from the scada system and then generate its own SMS alarm. This requires your scada system to publish a poll-able protocol for the eWON device.

Your distributor might be able to assist with this implementation.

Ok, thank you. I will look at the files and contact the distributor.
But “generate it’s own SMS alarm” - by this you mean that all alarms must be created in the eWON? The SCADA system consists of 200 alarms and I want these alarm texts sent as SMS thru the eWON.

@oko77

This is correct, the alarms must be created in the eWON.

Another way is to consider is sending a text using the SCADA email using the eWon as you modem / internet gateway.

Using the table below select the carrier and use the email address insert the 10 digit phone number of the phone to receive the text. If you have not used this technique previously try sending your self a test message.

Note: If sending greater than 160 Characters try the MMS address.

Hi - ok, thank you. I will try the e-mail then. It would be nic if it worked, because we use eWON (flexy) a lot for remote access also.

George is correct that you can use email to SMS if your Scada system has an internet connection.
This would not require any setup in the eWON if there’s an internet connection for your Scada system already provided.
